6th Annual H2-Aero Symposium
June 9-10, 2027 @AIAA Aviation Forum in San Diego, California
The 6th Annual H2-Aero Symposium is being held July 9-10 in San Diego, California together with the AIAA Aviation Forum, the largest US Aviation Event (expected over 3000 registrants)
Like each of the past meetings, this year's symposium will feature two days of groundbreaking presentations with the latest cutting-edge developments by a who's who of the hydrogen aviation and fuel cell community, including presentations on fuel cell aircraft technology, demonstrations and hydrogen hubs for airports. In addition, interested attendees are invited to SAE International's
AE-5H Hydrogen Airport Committee meeting the daybefore, on Thursday, July 11th (Free of Charge). Note: There will be an SAE AE-5H Member Discount.
Innovation Driving Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Progress
The 5th Annual H2-Aero Symposium convenes trailblazers from large Airframers, pioneering startups, government organizations, universities and others to present the latest in hydrogen fuel cell propulsion, liquid hydrogen fueling and storage solutions, and turbine technology, accelerating clean aviation.

H2-Aero Whitepaper:
Multimodal H2-Airport
Highlights of the H2-Aero “Multimodal H2 Airport Hub” Whitepaper
- Core Concept: Proposes starting hydrogen infrastructure with airport ground vehicle fueling stations (such as hydrogen buses and heavy-duty trucks) before scaling up to support fueling hydrogen fuel cell and turbine aircraft.
- Overview of Hydrogen Propulsion Storage: Provides a comprehensive review of fuel cell power and hydrogen to convert each aircraft at the airport, ranges with hydrogen and an overview of hydrogen storage requirements across different plane types
- Codes & Standards: Provides an overview, status of relevant standards as well as a gaps analysis for standards needed for commercial hydrogen aviation.
- H2 Production Efficiency Comparison: Notes that e-fuels used to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) require significantly more energy at scale (~788 MJ) compared to producing liquid hydrogen (~218 MJ), pointing to long-term cost and energy efficiencies for hydrogen.
- Industry Impact: The findings and framework from the whitepaper helped spawn the creation of industry groups like the SAE International AE-5H Hydrogen Airport Committee to harmonize fueling, coupling, and safety standards.
- Future Updates: An updated edition of the whitepaper is scheduled for 2027 to incorporate the latest technology advances, projections, standards and gaps analysis.
